POI FEB RAS at the annual conference "Results of expeditionary research in 2025 in the World Ocean, inland waters, the Spitsbergen archipelago, and the Kamchatka Peninsula"
On March 19–20, 2026, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (Moscow) hosted the annual conference, "Results of Expeditionary Research in 2025 in the World Ocean, Inland Waters, the Spitsbergen Archipelago, and the Kamchatka Peninsula." Expedition leaders and heads of scientific teams from the V.I. Il’ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute FEB RAS presented their findings.
In 2025, the Institute successfully conducted seven expeditions on the research vessels "Akademik M.A. Lavrentyev" and "Akademik Oparin" (National Operator of the Research Fleet), and the yacht "Svetlana" (POI FEB RAS), totaling 227 days. Institute staff also participated in organizing and implementing the scientific program during the voyage of the research vessel "Professor Gagarinsky" from Vladivostok to Haiphong, Vietnam..
The routes of the POI FEB RAS marine expeditions in 2025
The expeditions carried out work on scientific programs within the framework of the Institute's State Assignment for 2025:
-
Comprehensive (biohydrochemical, biological, geochemical and hydrological) studies of the estuary bays of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan (Shelikhov Bay, Penzhina Bay, the East Sakhalin shelf and Peter the Great Bay). The head of the expedition – P.Yu. Semkin.
-
Hydroacoustic research in the Sea of Japan and the Tatar Strait. The head of the expedition – E.A. Voitenko.
-
Comprehensive (geological, geophysical, geochemical, gas-geochemical, hydroacoustic, oceanological and biological) research of the Bering Sea and the northwestern Pacific Ocean. The head of the expedition – A.A. Bosin.
-
Comprehensive optical, acoustic and radar research to develop methods and technologies for the rapid identification of hydrodynamic, gas-geochemical and hydrobiological structures in the seabed and on the sea surface, including in real time, on the eastern shelf of Sakhalin Island. The head of the expedition – P.A. Salyuk.
-
Comprehensive oceanographic studies of the structure and dynamics of waters, radioecological and biochemical characteristics, their interannual variability in the western part of the Sea of Okhotsk and the northeastern part of the Sea of Japan, including the Sakhalin Bay, the Amur Estuary and the Tartary Strait. The head of the expedition – V.B. Lobanov.
-
Сomprehensive oceanographic studies of the structure and dynamics of waters, hydrochemical and biochemical characteristics, and their interannual variability in the northern half of the Sea of Japan. The head of the expedition – A.F. Sergeev.
-
Сomprehensive geological, geophysical, geochemical and oceanographic research in the territorial waters of Vietnam (South China Sea) (100th cruise, dedicated to the memory of Professor, Doctor of Geological and Mineral Sciences A.I. Obzhirov, in collaboration with the Institute of Earth Sciences of the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technologies). The head of the expedition – R.B. Shakirov..
Specialists from other research institutions, universities, and government agencies participated in the expeditions. Significant portions of the expeditions were young scientists and students. All stated objectives were achieved.
In 2026, POI FEB RAS plans to conduct eight expeditions on vessels belonging to the National Operator of the Research Fleet (NORF) and a joint expedition with the Russian-Vietnamese Tropical Center on the research vessel “Professor Gagarinsky”. In addition, the research vessel “Geofizik”, which was transferred to the operational management of the NORF in 2025, is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2026.
