A scientific session dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's flight and Cosmonautics Day was held at the V.I. Il’ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute FEB RAS

On April 15, 2026, a scientific session dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight and Cosmonautics Day was held in the large conference hall of the POI FEB RAS. 

Session participants discussed a wide range of issues related to the application of space technologies to Earth exploration.

Leading scientists from the POI FEB RAS, Institute of Automation and Control Processes FEB RAS and Far Eastern Federal University presented reports on satellite oceanography, climate change monitoring, remote sensing of ecosystems and geospheres, and modern methods of processing satellite data.

The session presented research results in areas such as Lagrangian oceanography, satellite altimetry, hazardous weather analysis, and the use of remote sensing data at carbon-bearing sites.

Particular attention was paid to the historical significance of the first human spaceflights and their impact on the development of remote sensing methods for studying the planet.
