- Hydrophysical, hydrochemical and hydrobiological investigations in the oceans and seas, their physical fields, energy-mass exchange and the ocean - atmosphere interaction; the state of marine ecosystems;
- Marine geology, geophysics and geochemistry of the Pacific and the Arctic Ocean and their mineral resources;
- Development of new methods and creating means of ocean and atmosphere research, development and application of remote sensing methods, and creation of oceanographic data analysis databases.
