From May 27-29, 2026, Vladivostok hosted the "Maritime Congress – Far East 2026"—a major industry event supported by the Primorsky Krai government and personally attended by the regional governor. The congress was organized by LLC "NEVA-International". The event brought together representatives of government agencies, leading shipbuilding and shipping companies, port operators, research organizations, and educational centers from Russia and abroad.

In the frame of the congress's business program, Acting Director of the POI FEB RAS, PhD in Geology and Mineralogy Alexander Nikolaevich Charkin, participated in the session "Innovative Technologies for the Far Eastern Fishing Fleet: Improving Profitability." The discussion focused on the use of next-generation hydro acoustics, the introduction of smart fishing gear and automated catch processing lines, import substitution for ship equipment, digital fisheries management based on satellite monitoring, and improving fleet energy efficiency. The participation of the Institute's director emphasized the significant importance of academic science for the development of the Far East's maritime industry.

The congress also included a Youth Maritime Forum, bringing together young scientists, students, cadets, and industry specialists. POI FEB RAS staff actively participated in the program.

Nadezhda Sergeevna Syrbu, PhD in Geology and Mineralogy and the Head of the Laboratory for Integrated Environmental and Mineral Resource Studies of POI FEB RAS, moderated the business track—a panel discussion titled "Inspiring Discoveries: How to Activate the Scientific Potential of Far Eastern Youth." Representatives from academy science, industry institutes, universities, and industrial enterprises participated in the discussion. Key topics included:
