The 84th voyage of the research vessel “Akademik Oparin” has ended

10.08.2026

On August 10, 2026, scientists from the POI FEB RAS completed a 10‑day expedition in the Sea of Okhotsk.

Under the leadership of Evgeny Voytenko, a researcher at the Laboratory of Acoustic Tomography, the team of 8 people carried out the following tasks:

  • Development of a methodology for studying and monitoring the climatic variability of temperature fields in the Sea of Okhotsk using acoustic thermometry.

  • Creation of a methodology for applying complex hydroacoustic systems (with data assimilation from ocean circulation and sound propagation models) for underwater navigation, tomography, and communication.

  • Theoretical and experimental studies of methods for transmitting and receiving navigation and communication information in shelf zones and the open ocean to build advanced underwater object control systems.

The research was conducted within the framework of the State Assignment of the POI FEB RAS for 2026 and the Program of Fundamental Scientific Research for 2024–2026 on the topic “Development of a methodology for studying complex acoustic systems and environments” (scientific supervisor: Morgunov Yu.N.).
